The Call Type field is used in both the RMS Calls For Service form and the CAD Call Taker Form. The Call Type code field is 8 characters long and is designed to hold a code (usually a radio code) that represents a particular type of field event or activity. Generally speaking this field should not be used to hold your state statutory offense codes unless those same code are routinely used as part of your radio protocol to describe field events. The Call Type code should also be much less granular than your state statutory offense codes. For example, your state probably has a dozen or more different statutory codes to identify various forms of theft (Grand Theft, Petty Theft, Petty Theft with a prior, Theft from a car, Theft from a vending machine, etc. etc. etc. ). For the purposes of the RMS Calls for Service module or Computer Aided Dispatch the Call Type code would probably just be "THEFT".
* Remember that you should allow an Incident Report or other subsequent document to illustrate the specific criminal code details. The Call Type code is just a basic description of what kind of call it is and not a granular specific code for a specific crime. The idea here is to keep the list of Call Types codes relatively Simple, Short and easy to understand and identify at a glance.
