Social Security Enumerated Verification System (EVS) Output File

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is required by law to suspend benefit payments to certain incarcerated individuals. Since SSA’s beneficiary payment records are uniquely identified by Social Security Number (SSN), the first step toward the suspension of benefits is to obtain an SSN of each incarcerated individual along with other definitive identifying information and verify that the data matches SSA’s records.  The Enumeration Verification System (EVS) is used to verify that the SSN, name, and date of birth submitted by the reporter match SSA’s records. If the SSN provided by the reporter does not match, or the reporter cannot provide an SSN, but furnishes other pertinent identifying information, various electronic systems are used in an attempt to locate the SSN assigned to the confined individual  Crimestar RMS can automatically create an SSA compliant EVS output file which can be submitted to the SSA.  This feature can be accessed using the "Soc Sec File" button in the Group section of the Jail Management Module of Crimestar RMS
