Upgrading Crimestar Professional Version to Enterprise Version

The Enterprise version of Crimestar RMS is a true client/server application that can handle very large volumes of data with great speed. The Enterprise version is better suited for use across a wide area network, installations with large numbers of users or situations where higher database security is required. The process of upgrading a Crimestar RMS Professional version installation to the Enterprise version is very easy. Because we are continuously adding new features and capabilities to the software, version synchronization is critical to the success of the upgrade process. We recommend that you follow these simple steps.

1. Make a known good backup of your existing Crimestar RMS Professional database.

2. Upgrade your Crimestar RMS professional version to the newest release. Make sure that your Crimestar RMS ("DBF" Type) database is properly updated. As part of this upgrade you will be provided with the SQL script file that corresponds to that release.

3. Follow the instructions for Creating the Crimestar SQL Enterprise Database.

4. Follow the instructions for running the Database Synchonize program with a SQL database

At this point you should be able to run Crimestar RMS and have it access all your existing data from the SQL Server database. Crimestar RMS can access an SQL database simply by knowing the TCP/IP address of that database. While you would probably never want to do this with your own database, access can even be made over the Internet from anywhere in the world.
