Why do I get the "CrimeStar is already running" message?

Question: CrimeStar was loaded on a file server. We are licensed for 3 users. When I try to run CrimeStar from another workstation under a different logon, I get a message, "CrimeStar is already running". How can I run it on another workstation?

Answer: Usually, when you get the message that says "CrimeStar is already running" it is because you are attempting to run more than 1 copy of the program on the same machine. Running more than one copy of CrimeStar on a single machine is not permitted, as it can create resource conflicts. Note that if you are trying to run the CrimeStar EXE (program file) from the file server, then everyone is in effect running it from the same machine. This is not the way CrimeStar was designed to be run and it will not work properly in that type of situation.
