Printing Maps

Notes on Printer Memory

Laser printers are required to buffer an entire page before they begin to print, because they anticipate that the computer will not be able to send data quickly enough once the paper begins to move. Printing highly detailed maps on a laser printer can require a large amount of printer memory to function without causing printer overrun errors. If you are experiencing printer overrun, the best first defense is to reduce the size of the area and/or the amount of detail included in your map.

Water features, although pretty, are very demanding from a resource perspective and should be turned off when not required. Adding additional memory to your printer can help resolve printer overrun problems, refer to the documentation provided by your printer manufacturer for additional information.

Another solution to the potential printer overrun error is to direct your output to an inkjet printer. Due to their slower print speed, these devices dont need to buffer the entire page and can subsequently print significantly more detailed maps.
