Law Enforcement Software
The CrimeStar mapping component uses an OCX map control. In order for this control to properly operate, it must be able to locate the map data files. Depending upon the map files being used, it does this in different ways.
For the FREE maps, it does this by looking for the entry in the ‘pwstreet.ini’ file located in your \windows directory.
If when you installed the CrimeStar you installed it into the default directory ( \Crimestar ), everything should work normally. However if you installed the software and map files into a directory other than the installation default, you will need to modify the entries in the ‘pwstreet.ini’ file to reference the directory where the software and subsequent map files were installed.
The pwstreet.ini file contains two entries with default values as follows:
BASEPATH=c:\crimestar\maps
CELLDATA=c:\crimestar\maps
For the Premium Maps it does this by looking for the entry in the crimestar.ini file located in the Crimestar install folder.
The crimestar.ini file contains a section called [MAPS]. within that section the following entry is used to locate the folder where the premium map files are located.
MAPPATH=c:\crimestar\maps
By default the map files are located in a sub-directory to \Crimestar called \Maps. This is the location where any detailed street level map files should be located.
