What is an investigative (MNI) Alert?
An Alert is a flag that is attached to a Master Name Index record which instructs CrimeStar to send an ALERT or notification back to the creator of the ALERT every time someone searches the database and recalls the flagged master name record. The user who performed the search may or may not be notified of the alert condition, depending on which notification option was selected when the ALERT was created.
This feature is particularly useful for investigators who have developed confidential informants ‘CI’ and want to know if their informant is being investigated by another officer. They can Flag the ‘CI’ in the system and they will be notified when someone else initiates activity associated with the ‘CI’.
To create an ALERT, select ‘Admin’ from the main menu. Then select ‘Confidential’ from the Admin menu. Finally select Investigative (MNI) Alert from the ‘Confidential’ menu. This will display the ALERT creation form. Then Click the Add button and enter the name of the person you wish to search for in the MNI. Select the MNI record that you wish to attach an ALERT to. Then select the ALERT Notification option desired and enter and Notification text that you wish to attach to the MNI ALERT.
