Calls for Service / Field Events Module

This module was formerly called the "Calls For Service" module.  The name was updated to more appropriately identify the broader scope for which it is used.  In a public safety dispatch environment everything that happens is referred to as an "Event".   Some Events are notifications and requests expressly made by others in the community which is typically referred to or defined as a "Call For Service" while other Events are not reported by the community but rather are self-initiated by field personnel.  These self-initiated events are typically not defined as a "Call For Service" but still represent important activity that needs to be tracked.  Thus every Call For Service is an Event, but not every Event is a Call For Service.

This module is designed to capture all the basic information of a field event including date, time, call type, location, reporting party name, basic activity details and descriptions as well as key unit response data and activity times such as unit ID, Officer ID, time dispatched, time enroute, time arrive, time cleared and the disposition of the event.  The Call Type field identifies the type of general activity such as; "Noise Complaint", "Burglary", "Traffic Accident", "Vehicle Stop", "Pedestrian Stop"  etc.  The call source field can be used to distinguish various reporting sources for the events. The Calls For Service / Field Event module represents the BASIC data that is initially known which causes a response or action of field personnel and it may or may not initiate the creation of other related reports or documents.  It is simply the starting point for most, if not all, other documents within the Records Management System.  If you are using Crimestar CAD to capture  and control dispatch activity in real-time then the RMS Calls For Service / Field Event module serves as the data repository for all closed CAD events.  Data from closed CAD events are automatically transferred to this module.  If you are not using Crimestar CAD then then you should consider using this module to capture your Calls For Service / Field Event data directly into RMS.

* The Calls for Service / Field Event module is not intended to substitute for an incident module. Other than what you may choose to include in the comments, by design, there is no place to enter victim and suspect, vehicle or specific property information, etc. That type of detailed data when received over the phone, is unqualified and can often be inaccurate.  Additional specific details should be captured in the form of an incident report, Citation, Field Interview or other document by an officer at the scene.

Likewise, the Calls For Service / Field Event module is not a complete substitute for a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. While this module allows you to capture and report on the same basic data elements it does not provide the rapid interrupt real-time data handling that is typically required for a 91 call center.

Since some officers use this module in their vehicles to record their response to calls, we have assigned certain function keys to this module. The following function key assignments apply when the Calls For Service form is active and selected.

F1 = Help

F2 = Primary Unit Dispatch Timestamp

F3 = Primary Unit Enroute Timestamp

F4 = Primary Unit Arrive Timestamp

F5 = Primary Unit Clear Timestamp

F6 = Secondary Unit Dispatch Timestamp
